Redline Dealer Education has been providing California DMV approved used car dealer training since 2018.

We were founded by Hector Topete, who started as a used car dealer in 2012. After 8 years as a retail used car dealer, Hector utilized his education, knowledge and know-how to teach the DMV Pre Licensing Course to CA based dealers.

Hector’s experience includes:

• Over 5 years as a DMV Instructor

• Over 4 years as a DMV registration service owner

• Over 8 years experience as a DMV licensed retail dealer

• MBA from CSUEB

• Bachelors of Science in Finance

• Holds a CA Teaching Credential

Since the pandemic, we have transitioned from in-person courses to offering everything completely online.

We provide a fully self-paced online course, as well as an instructor-led online course held via Zoom on Sundays at 9am – 3pm PST.

No, this is referred to as ‘curbstoning’ and is illegal in California. In order to sell any vehicles in California, you need to have a DMV used car dealer license, which you can only obtain after completing a state validated pre-licensing course, like ours.

Yes, in order to receive your DMV used car dealer license, you need to have a certificate of completion, which is only delivered after you’ve passed a state validated pre-licensing course, like ours.

Your first step is to take the DMV Pre Licensing Course, then submit your completed application online with the DMV. After your application gets reviewed, a DMV inspector will conduct an on site inspection of your dealership office. Once the inspection is successful, you will be issued a DMV temporary permit to start buying and selling cars! 

Yes, even though the majority of the class is relevant to the retail dealer license, DMV administers the same dealer exam for both license types.
